Patricia Hamilton
Patricia is Director of Medical Education for England and works in the Department of Health. She is responsible for overseeing educational projects looking at improving the shape and delivery of medical training at postgraduate and undergraduate levels. She oversees the development and delivery of selection and recruitment into Foundation and Specialist training. She was involved with setting up the independent advisory body Medical Education England and works closely with it and with other key stakeholders in medical training. She co-chairs the Medical Programme Board.
She is currently seconded from her post of Consultant and Senior Lecturer in Neonatal Paediatrics at St George’s Hospital in London where she was also previously a Medical Director.
Patricia was President of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, having previously been Vice President for Training and Assessment. She was involved with developing the paediatric curriculum and assessment programmes and in producing learning resources.
She has been a member of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and its Education and Training Committees. She chaired the Medical Leadership Competency Framework project. She is a board member of Medical Education England and of the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board. She co-Chaired the London Children’s Clinical Pathways group, and a was a member of the leadership group of the Next Stage Review.
She is currently President of the European Academy of Paediatrics and has a strong interest in harmonising standards of training and assessment across the European Community.
