Professor Sibylle Koletzko is the Head of the Division of Paediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Dr. v. Haunersches Kinderspital at the Ludwig Maximilians University Munich, Germany (since 2002).

Professor Koletzko studied medicine at the University of Münster, Germany and was trained in Paediatrics at the University Children’s Hospital in Düsseldorf. From 1986 until 1988, she was a clinical research fellow in the Division of Paediatric Gastroenterology at the Hospital of Sick Children, Toronto, Canada.

Professor Koletzko’s research involves projects in inflammatory bowel disease, Helicobacter pylori infection, celiac disease and food allergy. She is one of the principal investigators of the German Infant Nutrition Intervention (GINI Plus) study (with a cohort of almost 6000 children followed up for >10 years). She is the German representative investigator for a large intervention trial including newborns from families with celiac disease (funded by EU). Professor Koletzko is also a member of the celiac group for the long-term observational TEDDY study (funded by NIH), where 8000 children with a genetic risk for typ1 diabetes mellitus and celiac disease are followed until 15 years of age looking at environmental and nutritional risk factors. She has received several scientific awards for her research.

Professor Koletzko is the secretary of GI-committee of the European Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN), member of the Council of ESPGHAN, and the past-president of the German speaking Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition (GPGE). She is the chair of the Working group for Helicobacter pylori infections in children of ESPGHAN and member of the scientific advisory committee of an International register for children with Crohn’s disease. She has contributed to several evidence based national and international guidelines, including Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, infectious gastroenteritis in childhood, cow’s milk allergy, and Helicobacter pylroi infection. She is a member of the Editorial board of the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition and is principal author or co-author of >200 scientific publications or book chapters.
