Neil Marlow
Neil Marlow joined the EGA Institute for Women’s Health in September 2008, moving from the School of Human Development in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Nottingham, where he was Head of School. He has combined a successful academic career with clinical neonatal practice and a commitment to improving services with Neonatology both in the UK and internationally.
Neil has held prestigious national offices as President of the British Association of Perinatal Medicine and the Neonatal Taskforce; he is currently President of the European Society for Paediatric Research. He was elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2007 and awarded the honour of Honorary Life Friend by Bliss, the premature babies charity, in recognition of his contribution to clinical care.
Since embarking on his academic career Neil has focussed on the issues of outcomes following premature birth. He is the lead investigator for the MRC EPICure Studies, an internationally renowned study of outcome following birth at extremely low gestational ages (www.epicure.ac.uk, http://www.instituteforwomenshealth.ucl.ac.uk/director/www.epicure.ac.uk). He is a co-investigator on a range of Research Council and AMRC funded clinical trials, several of which are investigating antenatal interventions, and a PI for several focused studies of the sequelae of very preterm birth. He has wide collaborations in the UK and in Europe.
