Mike Shields

Professor of Child Health, Queen’s University Belfast & Consultant Paediatrician (Respiratory), Royal Belfast Hospital Sick Children.

I graduated in Medicine from Bristol University and trained in the N Ireland paediatric training programme. I also spent some years training in Critical Care and Respiratory Paediatrics at the Hospital Sick Children, Toronto.

My research interests include; childhood asthma (airways inflammation and its non-invasive measurement), rapid diagnosis of respiratory viral infections and meningococcal disease.

I Chaired the BTS Cough guidelines in children and co-chair the Pharmacology section of the BTS/SIGN asthma management guidelines.
