Announcing PEARL – Helping Paediatricians Keep Their Patients Healthy
EiP is delighted to be championing an initiative that will help paediatricians promote energy balance, active and real living to their patients.
An active healthy lifestyle is undeniably important for both short term and long term health. Getting it right from the start is therefore essential. A ‘healthy lifestyle’ often tends to focus heavily on diets alone and forget the rest. Therefore, EiP Institute is now launching the active healthy lifestyles initiative that deliberately adds more weight to the ‘active’ part.
Primary care paediatricians are on the frontline in the fight against paediatric obesity. EIP aims to support their training and development allowing them to promote active healthy living with the families they care for. Parents look to their paediatricians for advice about how to keep their children healthy. But providers may find themselves ill equipped to handle some of the challenges parents of today face, what is a healthy diet? How do I get my child to be more active? What are the risks associated with excessive Internet use? How do I set limits on my child’s food intake, and media usage?
The Excellence in Paediatrics Institute is launching this new initiative to help paediatricians Promote Energy balance, Active and Real Living (PEARL). The aim of PEARL is to enable health care providers worldwide to better understand and manage immediate and long-term health questions and concerns related to diet, nutrition, hydration, and physical activity.
Over 5,000 paediatric health care providers will be educated every year via e-learning modules, national support networks, and an international summit held at the Excellence in Paediatrics 2013 Congress in Qatar.
Look out for the launch of the dedicated initiative website over the coming weeks.
