Awards & Bursaries
AWARDS
The submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee and evaluated in terms of their appropriateness and overall quality. All accepted abstracts will circulate as a supplement in Acta Paediatrica.
A limited number of abstracts will receive special awards on the basis of their scientific merit and originality.
Best Abstracts Awards
The 12 best abstracts will receive the “Excellence in Paediatrics Award”. The awards ceremony will take place during the Opening Ceremony. Only the 12 awarded abstracts will be presented as oral presentations in 3 special sessions in the main conference hall.
The presenting authors of the 2 best abstracts will receive a continuing education fund from the “Excellence in Paediatrics” Conference Organisers. More specifically, they will receive financial support of up to €3.000 in order to attend any of the short courses provided by the UCL Institute of Child Health in 2011. Provision of the financial support is upon acceptance of the awardee’s application to UCL ICH for the course they will select. Please note that the Conference Organisers cannot guarantee a place in the above mentioned training courses and it is the sole responsibility of the awardee to follow all relevant application procedures with the UCL ICH.*
The presenting authors of all 12 awarded abstracts will receive:
- Honourary certificate
- A complimentary registration for the Excellence in Paediatrics 2011 Conference
- A book voucher of €100 value for all Wiley-Blackwell books
* The Conference Organisers will refund the exact amount of the course registration fees, upon presentation of official documentation from the UCL ICH. They will also issue air or train tickets from the awardee’s permanent residence to London and book accommodation for the participant in London for the duration of the course. The total amount of support to be provided will not exceed €3.000
Best Posters Awards
The 3 best posters will receive the “Best Poster – Excellence in Paediatrcs” awards. The awards ceremony will take place during the Closing Remarks session of the Conference. The presenting authors will receive:
- Honourary certificate
- A complimentary registration for the Excellence in Paediatrics 2011 Conference
- A book voucher of €100 value for all Wiley-Blackwell books
Young Investigators Awards
The 3 best abstracts submitted by scientists under 35 years old will be awarded the “Young Investigators - Excellence in Paediatrics” awards.* The awards ceremony will take place during the Closing Remarks session of the Conference. The presenting authors will receive:
- Honourary certificate
- A complimentary registration for the Excellence in Paediatrics 2011 Conference
- Complimentary accommodation for the next Excellence in Paediatrics 2011 Conference
* A young scientist may receive this distinction over and above any other award. On such occurrence, the award recipient will be entitled to only one complimentary registration for the next Excellence in Paediatrics.

INFORMATION
To encourage talented delegates from all over the world to attend the conference, “Excellence in Paediatrics” will offer 10 bursaries for participants studying or working in "Least Developed" or "Landlocked Developing" Countries.
Each bursary includes*:
- Ticket: A roundtrip economy ticket from the participant’s country of residence to London
- Accommodation: 4-night’s accommodation in London*
- Registration: A complimentary registration for the “Excellence in Paediatrics” 2010 conference

ELIGIBILITY, CONDITIONS & RESTRICTIONS
All paediatricians (fully qualified or trainees) who study or work in ‘’Least Developed’’ or ”Landlocked Developing Countries” and have successfully submitted an abstract to ‘’Excellence in Paediatrics’’ are eligible to apply.
Applicants must submit:
- Proof of abstract submission as first author by submitting a copy of the abstract submission confirmation letter (obtained through the “Excellence in Paediatrics” abstract submission process at www.excellence-in-paediatrics.org).
- Proof of status from the Institution, Hospital or University. This must be an official letter, signed by the relevant Head of Department, confirming that the applicant works or studies (and is in good academic standing).
- Copy of passport
- CV (2 pages)
- Application. A letter including (a) why the delegate wishes to attend the conference, (b) how the conference relates to his/her work or study and (c) how it will benefit his/her work or study.
STEP-by-STEP-Procedure to Apply For Conference Bursaries
- Carefully read the eligibility criteria.
NOTE: Ineligible applications will be rejected without further notice - Submit your abstract by 10 September 2010. Please bear in mind that the quality of the submitted abstract is a key element in the bursaries evaluation process.
- E-mail your bursary application to eip-abstracts@candc-group.com and include ALL documentation (proof of abstract submission, proof of status, copy of passport, CV, application) by 10 September 2010. Please use "Excellence in Paediatrics Bursary Application" in the subject heading.
- All applicants will be notified about the result of the evaluation by the Scientific Committee via e-mail on 11 October 2010.
- If your bursary application is rejected, then you will need to register at the conference in order for your abstract to be included in the scientific programme. In case you are unable to attend “Excellence in Paediatrics”, you may withdraw your abstract by 26 September 2010.
*Bookings for flights and accommodation will be arranged by the Conference Organisers. Accommodation will be offered on a bed & breakfast basis. Accepted applicants will be notified regarding their flights and accommodation details together with the letter of acceptance by 11 October 2010.
